STRESS AND FATIGUE

Stress can make you tired.

From the basics like not sleeping because you are 'stressed out' and not fuelling your body because you cannot keep up with life...to creating a cascade of hormone imbalances that alter your metabolism and drain your energy: STRESS IS A SLOW POISON THAT WILL KILL YOU.

Fatigue that is not diagnosed by thyroid or iron blood tests (your tests are 'normal') can be due to stress.

This does NOT mean that you have to suffer on your own or see a psychologist! Of course, a psychologist can help you look at your stress in a different way; and manage it better: BUT THE STRESS HORMONES cause an imbalance in your OTHER HORMONES and this is what makes you exhausted and dysfunctional.

Do you hit the snooze button a few times and pray for more time to sleep each morning?

Do you feel like you will grind to a screeching halt if you slow down at some points in your day???

Do you feel that no matter how much you sleep, it is never enough?

Do you need to sleep extra on the weekends just to get by the week ahead?

Do you depend on caffeine to kick start your energy and get you through a day?

Do you need naps to recharge your batteries???

What if you don't think you are stressed and still feel this way???

What happened in your childhood?

Did you have stress years ago?

Do you put pressure on yourself to do more and is nothing ever good enough???

Are you the type of person who thinks it is 'my way or the wrong way'???

All this can put you in a state of constant stress response. Finally, your body just cannot keep up at the pace it used to.

Naturopathic docotrs call this ADRENAL FATIGUE. Medical doctors say 'there is no such thing'. Dr. Natasha Iyer calls this 'adrenal dysregulation' or 'adrenal hypofunction': your adrenal glands are your glands that produce stress coping hormones. CORTISOL is one of them. It helps you keep up with long term, on going stress. Adrenalin helps you deal with sudden onset stressful situations. If you place a high demand on your adrenal glands; they will wear out and perform suboptimally after a while IF YOU DON'T LOOK AFTER THEM.

Really!!!

Your adrenal glands are the most active tissue in your body and have high nutrient demands. If your doctor does not believe this: ask him or her about this: When your body fat percentage increases, your pancreas has to work harder to deal with the resulting insulin resistance.

After some time; your pancreas begins to fail and you become pre-diabetic. EVEN IN THIS 'IMPAIRED GLUCOSE TOLERANCE' stage, you have no symptoms. But you are already causing damage to your body that will rob you of your quality of life later.

Why would it be different for the adrenal glands?

The reason your glands start to function less optimally is this: they need nutrients to function efficiently and optimally. Under stress; your body has HIGHER DEMANDS. However, most people do not increase the nutrient supply to keep the body fuelled optimally and hence the decline begins.

WHAT CAN YOU DO???

Eat nutritient dense foods. Quinoa, kale, berries, broccoli are superfoods. Salmon, tomatoes, romaine lettuce and spinach are others to consider. Eating these vegetables and fruit raw is best.

Always practice relaxation.

Keep fit, even if it is simply regular walks in the fresh air.

Avoid toxic people that drain you.
