10 STEPS TO A SHARP MIND AND LEAN BODY  AS SHOWN ON BTV SEPTEMBER 18, 2008

Implement 2 steps a day over 5 days. Feel the difference in mental clarity and physical stamina. With more energy, vitality and mental focus, get MORE done in LESS time.

DAY 1

 Diet change 1: CUT OUT SUGAR!  Refined sugar (PROCESSED ie. made by man; not NATURALLY occurring sugars) affect concentration; can affect mood and behaviour and worst of all, turn right into fat. Sugar consumption worsens cravings and increase hunger by it's effect on the hormone INSULIN. 

SUGAR FROM NATURAL SOURCES IS GOOD FUEL FOR YOUR MUSCLES AND BRAIN. Too much, and of the 'bad' kind is what you should avoid. What do you think when you hear 'sugar'? The kind that you add to coffee and food, right? All starch breaks down into sugar - oats, rice, potatoes, peas, corn, carrots - they are all sugar!

Start by simply not adding sugar (processed granules) to anything; and not eating anything that you know has sugar in it eg. soda pop.

Next, try Stievia - a natural sweetener derived from the leaves of a plant. It is not a chemical. Simply doing this will help you have a more even blood sugar level, and feel better. Instead of drinking orange juice, try having a smoothie of blended fruit eg. peaches/ berries with ice and a bit of Stievia. DAY 2:

 Diet change 2: EAT PROTEIN. Make sure to have protein at every meal, start your day with protein. Choose good quality protein, and try to eat small, frequent meals. If your work schedule doesn't allow that; at least eat protein at every meal and aim for 5 hours at the most between meals. Protein helps keep your blood sugar stable. Protein helps reduce cravings. Protein helps you build muscle and helps regulate certain hormone levels.

Deli meat, sausages - these are poor quality proteins filled with additives, other products to add substance. Lean meat is a great start; or canned tuna/ salmon/ sardines. Yogurt, cottage cheese are good choices for snacks - try adding fresh berries to some plain yogurt or cottage cheese. Sweeten with Stievia. Or, add ice and blend into a smoothie; or use as a dip for apple slices to make a creamy desert.

This increases your 'cardiovascular output'. Or try moving your arms out straight ahead, parallel to the ground. Bring your elbows back and behind you, while stepping on the spot.

DAY 4

• ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil 
• 2 T. lemon juice or raw Apple Cider Vinegar (from Natural Food store)
 
Optional (add to the above):

• 1 tsp. maple syrup (or to taste)
