YOGA
The art of Yoga has been practiced in Eastern cultures for thousands of years. The West has discovered the benefits of Yoga, and it is becoming increasingly popular for many reasons:
Recent scientific studies have proven that Yoga reduces the physical effects of stress on the body; and has been linked to a reduction in heart disease in women (a study by Dr. Kenna Stevenson, MD; anti-aging specialist, author, radio and media personality and lecturer)
Yoga involves techniques for stretching, strengthening and relaxing the body, and promotes improved physical and mental health. Yoga is a discipline which involves a series of specially-designed stretches and breathing exercises to strengthen the body as a whole. Yoga increases energy levels, muscular strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, and flexibility. Regular practice increases lubrication of the joints, ligaments, and tendons. Yoga postures can also improve posture, stamina and balance. On a mental level, yoga postures increase endorphins, creating a calm and peaceful mindset that aids clarity of thought. It helps reduce the anxiety and stress that many of us experience in our daily lives.
In addition, yoga postures increase the intake of oxygen and massages internal organs and glands, which enhances the functioning of the respiratory, digestive, nervous, endocrine, reproductive, and elimination systems. This not only cleans and detoxifies our whole body, but also prevents the onset of disease and disorder. Most importantly, yoga postures are effective in enhancing our mind and body awareness.
KUNDALINI YOGA is the Yoga of Awareness. Kundalini Yoga emphasises the mind-body connection, and emphasises the benefit of meditation.
